Vernon F. “Bud” McKillop, Jr.

Dateline: Attleboro, MA

Vernon F. “Bud” McKillop, Jr., 79, of Attleboro, formerly of Norton, passed away on Tuesday November 15, 2011 at the Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood. He was the beloved husband and best friend of the late Patricia A. (Whalen) McKillop who died on October 12, 2001.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA on July 17, 1932, he was a son of the late Vernon F., Sr. and Louise M. (Pope) McKillop.
Bud grew up in Pittsburgh and was educated in Pittsburgh schools. A resident of Attleboro for the past 3 years, he had formerly made his home in Norton for 40 years.
During the Korean War, Bud faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Army, and on December 14, 1954 was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
Mr. McKillop was a retired Industrial Engineer having worked at Augat, Inc. in Attleboro for many years prior to retiring.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton, Bud was actively involved as a member of the church choir and the St Vincent de Paul Society at St. Mary’s Church.
Family was a special part of Bud’s life. His hobbies included playing cribbage and when younger was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling. He and his late wife Patricia also enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by his devoted children; Joan P. Brassard and her husband Bob of Hudson, New Hampshire, Robert S. McKillop and his wife Polly Pruneau of Portland, Maine, Vernon A. McKillop and his fiancé Kathi of Worcester, David K. McKillop and his wife Karen of Lakeville, Roy J. McKillop and his wife Therese of Killeen, Texas, Lori A. Zwicker and her companion Dave of North Easton and Louise M. McAuliffe and her husband Kevin of Foxboro. He was the cherished “Pop Pop” to 12 loving grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Lou Moore and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Monday November 21st at 11:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial with military honors will follow at 1:15 P.M. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday November 20th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
Due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery, Mr. McKillop’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, care of, St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton, MA 02766.
