Sylvia Andrée (Hunt) Holley, 73, died November 14 after a decline in health. She was born in Rutland, VT to Robert and Fleurette (Boucher) Hunt. She attended local Manchester schools and graduated from Rivier College in Nashua, NH, with a Degree in Business.
She was employed for many years by the Digital Equipment Corporation. She took early retirement, then served four terms in the New Hampshire State Legislature, representing Ward 3 in Nashua. During this period, she was Legislative Government Affairs Officer for the NH Arthritis Foundation, Legislative State Relations Officer for the America Red Cross, and a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council. She served on the Legislature’s Executive Department and Administration Committee.
A passionate community activist, she was involved with numerous organizations, serving as Employment Consultant in the Manchester YWCA Everywoman’s Center, member of the Nashua American Red Cross Board of Directors, Secretary of the League of Women Voters, and Coordinator of Catholic Medical Center’s Meds for Manchester Program. She enjoyed being a folk singer with the Digital Spit Brook Minstrels, and participating in Rivier College’s RISE Program. Keenly interested in local, state, and national politics, she was a longtime member of the New Hampshire and Bedford Republican Committees.
Family members include her husband, Eugene Holley of Bedford; two sons, Christopher Holley of Raleigh, NC, and Jonathan Holley of Richmond-upon-Thames, England; daughter-in-law Sara Holley; and four grandchildren, Nathaniel, Grace, Curtiss, and Cosette Holley; and two sisters, Phyllis Lago of Punta Gorda, FL and Suzanne Vargas of Scottsdale, AZ.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday, December 19, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Bedford, New Hampshire.
