TAUNTON – John Cunha, Jr., husband of Delfina (Laranjo) Cunha of Taunton, died at Longmeadow of Taunton on Nov. 12, 2011.
He was 82.
Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late John and Olive (Dias) Cunha, Sr.
Raised and educated in Taunton, Mr. Cunha later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Employed by the Taunton Fire Department as firefighter for thirty-two years, he retired in 1992, and had also worked for the Biss Lumber Co.
Mr. Cunha enjoyed working around his house and yard, and was a legendary handyman, able to fix anything.
He was a communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Laurel Hogan of Salinas, CA and Lisa and her husband Thomas Butkovich of Chesapeake, VA; two brothers, Roger Cunha and his wife Patricia of Taunton, and Buster Cunha of Maryland; two sisters, Margaret Furtado of FL, and Carol and her husband Lynn Goad of CA; four grandchildren, Matthew and Colleen Hogan, and Andrew and Ian Butkovich; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Gilbert and Russell Cunha.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Friday Nov. 18th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Andrew the Apostle Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at the Ma National VA Cemetery in Bourne.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday Nov. 17th from 5 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
