Bashaw, Gilbert J., 83, of Fanning Lane, owner of G J Bashaw Realty, died Friday, November 11, 2011. He was the husband of Marjorie (Forrest) Bashaw.
He was a son of the late Charles and Ellen (Shea) Bashaw. He had lived in Smithfield since 1948. He was a WW II Navy veteran having served aboard the USS Leyte. He was one of the founders of the St. Philip’s Men’s Club and steadfast promoter of the St Phillips Blood Drives. Mr. Bashaw had also written an editorial column for the former Observer in Greenville.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children: Michael E. Bashaw of Glocester, Cathy L. McHugh of Burrillville, David S. Bashaw of Johnston, Gilbert J. Bashaw, Jr. of East Greenwich, ten grandchildren, a great grandson, his siblings, Charles Bashaw of Safford Arizona, Mary Bashaw Youn and Gertrude Jones, both of Newburyport,MA and Helena Fowler of Amesbury, MA. He was the brother of the late Paul Bashaw and Charlotte Paige.
Funeral Thursday at 8:30am from the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial in RI Veterans Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers donations please consider a gift of a blood donation to the RI Blood Bank. .
