LEICESTER: Eleanor M. (Whittemore) Skagerlind, 77, of 369 Pleasant St., died Tuesday, Nov. 8 with her children at her side, at the Rose Monahan Hospice House in Worcester, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was the wife of Robert C. Skagerlind who died in 1996. She leaves her son Paul R. Skagerlind and his wife Janet of Templeton, two daughters Janet E. Macaulay and her husband Bob of Oxford, and Joan S. Levenson and her husband Ron of Southborough, two brothers David Whittemore of W.Brookfield and Richard Whittemore of Oxford, six grandchildren Kimberly Andrade, Heather Echols, Soren, Kira and Jenna Levenson and Emmalise Skagerlind, eight great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, her brother in law and sister in law Chester and Ruth Skagerlind of Worcester, and her longtime companion Larry Lewis of Leicester. She is predeceased by her brothers Frank and Ronald Whittemore.
Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of Frank R. and Gladys (Taylor) Whittemore and later graduated from Commerce High in Worcester. She worked for State Mutual Insurance Co. and later as an Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Student Affairs for Becker College for 25 years, retiring in 1993.
Eleanor was a member of the First Congregational Church of Leicester and its Women’s Association. She was a member of the Spencerian Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Red Hat Society and the Leicester Women’s Club. She was a longtime volunteer for the Meals on Wheels and FISH programs in Leicester.
She enjoyed spending her winters in Zephyrhills, Fla. with her friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. in the First Congregational Church, 2 Washburn Sq., Leicester. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Mooreland Cemetery, Paxton at a later date. Calling hours at the MORRISON-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester are Thursday, Nov. 10 from 4 to 7p.m.
