Obituary

John Theodore Bourpos, 68, lost his valiant battle with cancer on November 3, 2011 with his loving wife, Cheryl, by his side at their home in Andover, Massachusetts. He was born November 27, 1942, in Goffstown, NH to Paul and Helen Bourpos both from Thessaly, Greece.

John traveled to California as a young man and was educated at UCLA and at the University of Michigan where he earned his Ph.D. in Psychology. A Clinical Psychologist for over 32 years, he was creator and Director of the Outpatient Substance Abuse Clinic at the Boston V.A. Medical Center and practiced as a consulting psychologist to several of the Mass Rehabilitation Commission centers.

An avid outdoorsman, John loved travel, hiking, kayaking and photography. He cherished spending time with his beloved wife at their lakeside cabin in the Great North Woods of Maine. He had a special reverence for animals and their dog, Abby, was his constant companion. Wherever John went there were good times and laughter.

Together for 31 years, Dr. Bourpos is survived by his wife, Cheryl Rose Foster of Andover, MA, as well as dear sisters, Sophie Daigneault and Bessie Drapeau of NH and Diane Flagler of MD, in addition to his cherished and adoring nieces and nephews who he was so proud of. He was predeceased by his brother Lou in August 2009.

John excelled in his role as a counselor and mentor and had an important impact on many people’s lives. He lives on through the family and friends who loved and respected him.
