Courtney Smith, Jr., 65, of Fitzgerald, died Sunday, November 6, 2011, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 9 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Leroy Spivey officiating. Interment will follow in Turner Church Cemetery near Enigma. Visitation will be held from 7-9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith was born November 25, 1945 in Turner County to the late Courtney Smith, Sr., and the late Louise Willoughby Smith Adkison. He lived in Ben Hill County most of his life. Mr. Smith farmed with Chip Dorminy and was known as “The Corn Man” making sure his family and friends had corn. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah M. Smith of Fitzgerald; sons and daughters-in-law, Scott & Teresa Smith of Douglas, Glenn & Julie Smith of Valdosta; daughter, Wanda & Terry Munn of Fitzgerald; step children, Christopher Tucker of Atlanta, Bonnie & Ray Johnson of Willacoochee and Melissa Baxter of Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Tyler Scott Smith, Kelsey Lynn Smith, Kendall Hope Smith, Dexter Munn, Nathan Hall, Rebecca Hall, Ryan Johnson, Brayden Johnson, Abigail Tadlock and Galen Tadlock; special friend, Shirley Maton and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
