Mrs Alice W. (Wilkinson) McDermott, of Taunton, died Saturday, November 5 in Morton Hospital following a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late James McDermott for 53 years. She was born 93 years ago in Rishton, Lancashire, England, the daughter of the late Josiah and Louise (Sherman) Wilkinson. She was educated in Freetown and New Bedford, and had been a Taunton resident since 1947. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as the Assistant Treasurer at the former Paul A. Dever State School in Taunton for over 30 years. Alice enjoyed playing bingo, ballroom dancing, cruises with her late husband, and socializing with her many friends, especially those at the Weir Fruit Market. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Taunton.
She leaves: 1 stepson: Kenneth McDermott of El Paso, Texas, and several cousins in England and Wales.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Thursday, November 10 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow in Mayflower Hill Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday, from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
