Dorothea Singer
LEDYARD: Dorothea Ann Singer, 93, of Ledyard, wife of the late Henry Elton Singer, passed away at Pendleton Health and Rehab Center on November 2, 2011.
Born and raised in Mystic she was the daughter of the late George and Dorothea Barkowsky.
She enjoyed flowers, flower gardening, riding through forest looking for lady slippers, rides along the shoreline visiting and enjoying the Watch Hill lighthouse, Stonington Point, Harkness Park in Waterford and the Mystic Art Festival. She enjoyed animals and programs about all types of animals. She was fond of large cats, such as tigers, lions, leopards, and even bears.
At the age of 79 she climbed to the top of Lantern Hill in Ledyard with her daughters.
She leaves behind five children, Joe Singer and his wife Carol of Preston, Rodney Singer of Ledyard, Charlene Moudy of Broken Arrow, OK, Susette Singer of Ledyard and Michael Singer of Groton; two grandchildren, Lori Yuhas of Groton and Debbie Hamilton of Colchester; four great grandchildren Patrick and Jeffrey Yuhas of Groton and Cameron and Ashlee Hamilton of Colchester; a younger sister, Katie Barkowsky of Mystic, a younger brother Al Barkowsky of Norwich, and daughter-in-law Marion Singer of Groton. She is predeceased by her eldest son, Henry Singer and an older brother, George Barkowsky.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Sunday evening from 6 to 8pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic. A graveside service will be held on Monday at 11am at Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
