Annabelle Lyon Borah, 95

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Annabelle (Lyon) Borah, 95, of Mansfield, formerly of Sharon and Great Neck, New York, passed away in the comfort of her home, on Friday November 4, 2011.
She was the beloved wife of the late Julius M. Borah to whom she was wed for 60 years at the time of his death.
Born in New York City, New York on January 8, 1916 she was a daughter of the late Max and Ida (Tillman) Lyon.
A retired Ballet Teacher, Annabelle grew up in Memphis, Tenn. She received a scholarship to study Ballet with Michel Fokine in New York. She danced in George Balanchine’s first company and performed in his early works, including Serenade.
Annabelle was a charter member of the American Ballet Theatre and performed as their first Gizelle, as well as in works by Fokine, Anthony Tudor, and Agnes deMille. She was also in several Broadway shows including Carousel.
A resident of Mansfield for the past eight years, Mrs. Borah loved music and dancing, and enjoyed attending activities at the Epoch Senior Healthcare in Norton.
She is survived by her devoted son Joshua D. Borah and his wife Karen A. Castonguay of Mansfield, her cherished grandson; Matthew C. Borah of Mansfield, her brother; Melvin Lyon of New Jersey, and her dear friend and caregiver Peggy Furber of Easton.
A Memorial Service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday November 12th at 2:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
