WEBSTER - Martha A. Gallant, beloved wife of Amos J. Gallant who predeceased her in 1987, entered into eternal life on March 6, 2004, surrounded by her three devoted daughters, Dolores LeBlanc of Webster, Rita McCarthy of Webster and Sister Dorothy Gallant, SC, of New York City. Four other daughters, Cecelia, the oldest child and triplets, Ruth, Jacqueline and Judith died in infancy. Martha will be remember for her deep and steadfast faith, her love for life, her love and devotion to her family, her love for her friends, her humor and quick wit, her enjoyment of playing Bingo and cards and for the beautiful crocheting works of art that she produced.
Martha was born in Webster, one of the nine children of George and Cecelia (Kroll) Lewandowski. She was employed at American Woolen Mills in Webster and Carleton Woolen Mills in Charlton; was a crossing guard for several years and worked in the cafeteria at Bartlett High School until her retirement in 1982.
In addition to her three daughters, Martha is survived by a son-in-law, Armand J. McCarthy; 9 grandchildren, Judith Dupont, Jacqueline Power, David Dupont, Christine Emery and her husband Brian Emery, Kathleen Flibbert and her husband David Flibbert, Alan Dupont and his fiancee, Laurie Craven, Richard McCarthy and his wife Mary (Thrower) McCarthy, Kevin Dupont and his wife Kathy Dupont and Larry Dupont. She is also survived by six great grandchildren, Jason Flibbert, Jeffrey Flibbert, Joshua Emery, Zachary Emery, Kelly Rose Emery and Josiah Emery. She leaves many nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law, Loda Lewandowski, many loving friends and her dear cat “Jeff.”
Martha was a lifelong parishioner of Saint Joseph Basilica. In later years, she attended daily Mass at Saint Louis Church until several months ago. Martha was a member of the Saint Ann’s Society, Holy Rosary Sodality and the Sacred Heart Society.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, March 10, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica , 53 Whitcomb Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. Calling hours are Tuesday, March 9 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, at the funeral home.
