Mary T. (O'Connor) Sweeney-Elias, a longtime resident of Charlestown, died on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at her home in Charlestown following a lengthy illness. She was 82 years old.
Mary was born in Boston and grew up in Charlestown where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1947. She worked for several years at Hub Electric in Charlestown and then at Schrafft's Candy Company in Charlestown. Recently, Mary had lived in Dennis for 9 years and Chelsea for 4 years before moving back to Charlestown.
Mary is the devoted mother of Penny Sweeney of Watertown, Jack Sweeney and his wife Karen of North Reading, Gene Sweeney and his wife Charlene of Charlestown, Peggy Sweeney-Bishop and her husband Ray of Charlestown, Gayle Sweeney of Charlestown and the late Billy Sweeney. She is the loving grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown on Saturday morning, November 5, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with a procession to St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown for her Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial is private. There are no visiting hours.
