WORCESTER-Helen A. (O’Donnell) Doyle, 89, of Worcester, died Tuesday, November 1st at home surrounded by her loving family. She leaves her husband of 68 years, Richard J. Doyle, Sr.; four sons, Richard J. Doyle, Jr. and his wife, Eva of Germany, James J. Doyle and his wife, Suzanne of Framingham, Daniel J. Doyle and his wife, Linda of Paxton, and Christopher J. Doyle and his wife, Sandra of Worcester; two daughters, Helen A. Ingraham and her husband, Merle of Auburn and Carol A. Darvish and her husband, Masoud of Holden; a sister, Margaret Pastore of RI; 20 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by four brothers, George, Edward, James, and John O’Donnell, and three sisters, Katherine Nadeau, Gertrude Verrill, and Genevieve Seymour, and her namesake Auntie Helen (Sr. Mary Dominic), with whom she shared a special relationship.
She was born in Portland, ME, the daughter of George and Gertrude (Gould) O’Donnell and graduated from Cathedral High School. She was a member of Sacred Heart-St. Catherine of Sweden Parish, its Women’s Sodality, and sang in the choir. Helen was also a member of the Sacred Heart Academy Women’s Club, the Christian Family Movement, and the College Hill Civic Club. Mrs. Doyle had worked for New England Telephone Company and the College of the Holy Cross, but her favorite job was that of mother and grandmother and especially enjoyed holding babies. She was a gifted singer, played piano, enjoyed knitting, crocheting, family bingo, card playing, ice skating, and was an avid Red Sox fan.
The funeral is Friday, November 4th with a Mass at 11:00 A.M. in Sacred Heart-St. Catherine of Sweden Church, 600 Cambridge Street (please go directly to Church). Calling hours are from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday, November 3rd in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial in New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland, ME will be held at Noon, Saturday, November 5th.
