Woodrow S. Mixon, 93, Douglas, GA went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Southern Senior Living. Mr. Mixon was born in Lyons, GA on September 13, 1918 to the late Richard S. and Ida V. Crawford Mixon. Mr. Mixon was preceded in death by his wife: Sarah Elizabeth Knowles Mixon; 6 brothers and 1 sister. He was a retired self employed auto dealer and a surviving POW from his service during World War II; a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church with interment following in the Douglas City Cemetery.
Survivors include: son: Dr. Richard (Dorcas) Mixon, Macon, GA; daughters: Penny (Don) Griffin, Douglas, GA; Cindy (Ralph) Wills, Tampa, FL; 5 granddaughters; 6 grandsons; 21 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 from 6:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m at Sims Funeral Home. Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation, 2115 Park Blvd, San Diego, CA 92101.
