Obituary

Raymond R. Dunbar, 77, of Fitzgerald, died Monday, October 31, 2011, at Covenant Hospice in Pensacola, Florida.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Thursday, November 3, 2011, at the Assembly of God in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Joey Peterson officiating. Interment will follow in Arbor Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Dunbar was born July 17, 1934 in Ben Hill County to the late Robert H. and Glenie Mae Rogers Dunbar. He lived in Fitzgerald most of his life and for the past 6 months had made his home with his grandson, Jeffrey Shealey, in Navarre, Florida. For 25 years, he was a painting contractor with Roanoke Construction Company. Mr. Dunbar served in the United States Army during the Korean War Era. He was a member of the Assembly of God in Fitzgerald. A loving father and grandfather, he was hardworking and always willing to help others. He was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his daughters: Lorrie Dunbar of Mystic, Joann (Tony) Youngblood and Wanda Rountree, all of Fitzgerald and Naomi Spicer of McRae; 19 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren; sister: Laverne M. (Walter) Clifton of Columbus, OH as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys “Sissy” Veal Dunbar, two brothers including his twin, Robert H. Dunbar and Monroe McKinney, and 3 great grand children.
