Obituary

SACCUCCI - Rose Saccucci, 93, of Fernandina Beach passed away Saturday morning, October 29, 2011. She was born on October 12, 1918 in Providence, Rhode Island to Angelo and Angliana Zeoli, Italian immigrants who came to America to make a better life for themselves.
After Rose graduated from high school she got a job in a factory. She was musically gifted, playing both the guitar and bass, and was part of an all girl band that played on a local Rhode Island ferry on weekends. This is where she was to meet, fall in love with, and marry her first husband, William R. Mills, a sergeant in the United States Army. They were married in 1940 when she was the age of 22, and he was shipped overseas after the start of WW II. The marriage produced a son and William came home again after the baby was born for a short leave and got to meet his child. Unfortunately this was to be the only time they would meet and the last time Rose would be with her husband for he was killed in action in Italy in November 1944.
Rose was raising her son and working a full time job with the help of her parents when in 1947 she met and began dating Frank Saccucci. They married in 1948. Rose & Frank saved their money and were able to buy a beautiful home in 1961. This home would be where Rose would live until 2002. This marriage would last 35 years until Frank passed away in 1983.
After Frank Saccucci pass away, and with her son and his family living in Florida, in 1991 Rose married Harold Snyder. This marriage would last 10 years until Harold passed away in 2002.
Rose took the name, Saccucci, again after Harold’s death because that was her name for just about all her adult life. In the fall of 2002 she sold her home and she moved to Florida to live with her son, Raymond & his wife, Betty. Rose made herself useful by working in the flower beds and planting and growing things. Rose would make some new friends. She learned to play cards and truly enjoyed her time with her pinochle card group. She also found a hairdresser she loved and made many friends at “Kut it Out” Hair Salon. She enjoyed all of the time spent with all her new friends.
Rose was predeceased by her daughter in law, Betty Mills, in 2010, and is survived by her son, Raymond R. Mills of Fernandina Beach, FL; a sister and brother in law, Connie and John Cambio of Rhode Island; two grandsons, Todd Mills and Brian Mills; and three great grandchildren, Claudia, Damian, and Briana Mills.
A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November, 3, in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Tippins officiating.
Rose led a full rich life and lived longer than most. She was a happy person and was liked by all who knew her.
