RAYNHAM – Mario R. Spencer, husband of Maria R. (Rosa) Spencer, died at Brigham & Women’s Hospital after a period of failing health, with his family at his bedside on Oct. 29, 2011.
He was 49.
Born in Cape Verde, he was the son of Manuel S. Spencer, Sr. of Taunton and the late Maria C. (Rodrigues) Spencer.
He moved to the U.S. from Cape Verde at the age of 5.
Educated in Taunton, he was a graduate of Taunton High School, and attended Bridgewater State College.
Mr. Spencer served in the National Guard and was a past assistant director of the Taunton Boys Club for several years.
Also working with the Lawrence Boys Club, Mario had a passion for helping children and the elderly, and was known for going above and beyond when working with them.
He was also employed as a dispatch manager for the International Construction Co.
Mr. Spencer was a past Taunton School Committeeman, and member of the American Legion Post 405 and Club do Espirito Santo.
Besides his wife of thirteen years, and father, he leaves two sons, Anthony R. Mendes, and Nicholas M. Spencer, both of Raynham; three daughters, Courtney Spencer, Casey Spencer and Vanessa R. Mendes all of Raynham; a stepson, Sean A. Bigness of Raynham; five brothers, Hildo, Antonio, and Manuel S. Spencer, Jr. all of Taunton, Luis S. Spencer of Carver and John Spencer of Plympton; two sisters, Luisa Barros of Taunton and Manuela Rosa of Stoughton; a grandson, Jameer Davis of Raynham; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Wednesday, Nov. 2nd at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 9 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Nov. 1st from 5 to 8 p.m.
