Franklin W. MacPhie, 92, of North Andover, MA, died Thursday October 27, 2011 in the Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill, MA. He was born in Watertown, MA on June 14, 1919, a son of the late Elmore and Etta (Phillips) MacPhie. He had been a resident of North Andover for the past seven months, formerly living in Derry, NH and Melbourne Beach, FL. Mr. MacPhie was a US Army veteran serving during WWII. He had been employed as a salesman for Atlas Plywood in Boston, MA for several years. He had owned E.W. Belcher Catering in Wellesley Hills, MA, and had also worked for Gourmet Caterers of Roslindale, MA. He was a former volunteer fireman for the Sherborn, MA Fire Dept. and had served as an auxiliary officer with the Sherborn Police Dept. He enjoyed boating, traveling in his motorhome, playing golf, and was an avid NE Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Ann Lombardo and husband Jerry of Derry, Susan MacPhie Helms and husband Larry of Melbourne Beach, FL; one son, Franklin "Bud" MacPhie, Jr. of Worcester, MA; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; as well as two nephews and one niece. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Barbara (Preston) MacPhie in 2010, and by two grandsons and his brother, Rodney MacPhie.
Calling hours were held on Thursday, November 3rd from 2 - 5pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A funeral service followed at 5pm in the funeral home. A graveside service was held on Friday at 11:00am in Dennis Village Cemetery, Old Bass River Rd. and Rte 6A, Dennis, MA. Memorial contributions may be made to Tufts University Alumni, P.O.
