John J. Mayall, 99, of Dartmouth died Friday October 28, 2011 after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Dorothea T. (Gilmore) Mayall.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Alfred and Nora (Meehan) Mayall, he lived in New Bedford for many years before moving to Dartmouth 20 years ago.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.
Mr. Mayall was formerly employed as a dock worker for Ell Vee Dee Inc., then later worked as a groundskeeper at UMass Dartmouth.
During World War II, he served as a medic in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Whaling City Post.
Survivors include his son, Joseph G. Mayall and his wife Catherine of Dartmouth; three grandchildren, Kelsey Catherine Mayall, Joseph Gerard Mayall, Jr., and Thomas John Mayall; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Albert Mayall, Catherine Lawrence, and James Meehan.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
