George Allen Coute, Successful Businessman and a lifetime Tauntonian, Allen died on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at the McCarthy Care Center in East Sandwich, Ma. following a hard-fought battle at home with cancer. He was born February 22, 1942 in Taunton, Ma., the son of John and Mary (Ventura) Coute. He graduated from Taunton public schools and thoroughly enjoyed living his entire life in his beloved town of Taunton. He married his best friend Jacqueline Lee Hancock on February 14, 1969 and they had three children together. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War as a Morse Code Operator. He was a member of the Portuguese-American Civics Club in Taunton. He was a very good card player and enjoyed beating many. Sometimes he let his friends win. He owned and operated two successful businesses in the 70’s and 80’s: The Red Whippet Restaurant in Taunton and The Hill Top gas Station in Raynham. He was a professional gambler and master handicapper of greyhound racing and was completely successful at making this his profession and livelihood. He is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline L. Coute of Taunton, and his three children, Kimberly Cateon and her husband Jeffrey of Assonet, his son Robert Coute and his girlfriend Christine Bedard of Lakeville, daughter Kristen Coute of Fall River, and granddaughters Sarah Horn of Taunton, and Isabella Coute of Mansfield. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and two loyal ragdoll cats, Hocus and Pocus. He is predeceased by his parents John and Mary (Ventura) Coute and his four siblings, John “Jackie” Coute, Frederick Coute, Clifford Coute and Joyce Coute. Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington Street in Taunton Monday, October 31st at 10 AM. A funeral Mass will be at St. Mary’s Church in Taunton at 11 AM. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 1-3 PM. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery in Taunton.
