Joseph S. Simkevich, 92, of Manchester, NH died Sunday October 23, 2011 in the Courville at Manchester in Manchester. Joseph was born in Providence, RI on December 30, 1918, the son of the late John and Alexandra (Adamitis) Simkevich. He was a resident of Manchester for the past three years, formerly living in Windham, NH for 4 years and Bristol, NH. He was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, RI. During WWII, Joseph served with the US Air Force and Merchant Marines. He began his career as a chemical engineer for Providence Gas Company. He later worked for International Packing in Bristol as a chemical engineer and left for the grocery business. Mr. Simkevich was the former owner of Joe’s Supermarket in Bristol, NH.
He is survived by his son, Robert J. Simkevich and his wife Theresa of Londonderry, NH, two grandchildren, Katherine and Rachel Simkevich of Londonderry, and several nephews and one niece. He was predeceased by his wife, Edith M. (McCollough) Simkevich.
There are no calling hours. Following cremation, a memorial service was held on Saturday October 29, 2011 at 11:00am in the Londonderry United Methodist Church, Mammoth Road, Londonderry. Burial will be at a later date in the Homeland Cemetery in Bristol, NH. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01710.
