Obituary

Agnes Mary Cipriani, 89 of the Condominiums at Fairhaven died Monday, October 24, 2011 at the Oaks Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, New Bedford.
Born on January 11, 1922 in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Louise (Rossi) Cipriani.
An active and independent woman, she left school after graduating from Holy Name Grammar School to work after the death of her mother, but returned to graduate from New Bedford High Night School with her sister Victoria and her niece, Kathleen (Meredith) Volterra in the Class of 1968. She continued on and attended Bristol Community College taking courses in Chemistry and English.
Ms Cipriani worked all her adult life after leaving Holy Name School mostly in the needle trades in New Bedford. During World War II, Ms Cipriani volunteered as a Grey Lady for the American Red Cross while working at Camp Edwards as a Parachute packer with her sister. After the War, she returned to work in a variety of jobs ultimately working at the Acushnet Co. for 35 years first as a Buffer of golf balls and rising to the Testing & QA Division as a Chemical Lab Technician.
She is survived by a brother, Emile Cipriani and his wife Joan of New Bedford and a sister. While Agnes never married, she was the favorite aunt and Godmother and friend to many nieces and nephews including Terrence & Linda Meredith, Thomas & Marjorie Meredith, Kathleen Volterra & Karl Linstrum, Michael, Louise, & Kathy Jane and Susan & Dan Pritchard, their mother Joan Cipriani and many great nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Victoria Ann (Cipriani) Meredith.
In her later years “Auntie Emma” loved gardening, abandoned animals, cooking, and quahogging and traveled both to Ireland and Italy, the birthplace of her parents. “Cookie” will be missed by all who worked with her at The Oaks.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Thursday, October 27th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 10 AM. Visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Fairhaven Animal Shelter, 200 Bridge St. Fairhaven, MA 02719.
