Hart, Sister Mary, R.G.S.
Sister Mary Hart, a member of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, died Saturday at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Roslindale, MA
Sister Mary is a 1948 graduate of St. Mary’s High School, received her Bachelor’s Degree from Regis College, and a Master’s Degree from Fordham University. In 2010 she was awarded an Honorary Doctoral Degree from Boston College.
In 1953 Sister Mary entered the Sisters of Good Shepherd in Peekskill, New York.
In 2007 Mayor Thomas M. Menino presented Sister Hart with the Boston Neighborhood Fellows Award by the Philanthropic Initiative, Inc.
In 2009 Sr. Mary received the Robert Leo Ruffin Award presented by Cardinal Sean O’Malley at the annual Archdiocesan Bishop Healy Award Dinner.
Sister Mary was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Molly) Hart, and is survived by her twin brother, William and his wife, Alice of Andover, MA, sisters Margaret Hart and Virginia Hart Sullivan of North Andover, MA, and Patricia Hart O’Donnell of Seabrook Beach, New Hampshire. In addition Sr. Mary leaves numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, cousins, and many extended family members.
Visiting hours: Monday, October 24th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Parish Center, located at 175 Ruggles Street, Roxbury, MA Relatives and friends are invited.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a. m. on Tuesday, October 25th at St. Katharine Drexel Church located at 517 Blue Hill Avenue, Dorchester, MA
Interment is at Mt. Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury, MA
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Sisters of Good Shepherd Children’s Programs at St. Katharine Drexel Parish Center, 175 Ruggles Street, Roxbury, Massachusetts 02120.
