Dante “Danny” Sarno, a retired Lieutenant of the Somerville Fire Department, died Monday, October 10th at the age of 89.
Mr. Sarno was raised in Somerville, the son of the late Stanislao and the late Maria (Dello Russo) Sarno. Dante enlisted in the Coast Guard three days after the attack on Pearl Harbor and served until after the war’s end. In 1947 he was appointed to the Somerville Fire Department rising to the rank of lieutenant. He retired in 1980.
The father of Susan Lemure and her husband Gary of Saugus, he was the grandfather of Nicole and Shauna and great-grandfather of Kyle, Autumn, Adele, and Alana. He was the brother of Gloria McCullough of Medford and the late Anthony Sarno, Eleanor Tavanese, and Eva Fatello. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may visit Thursday evening from 4 - 8 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford. A Funeral Service will be conducted Friday morning, October 21st at 11 AM in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
