Obituary

Lula Mae Miles, 88, of Tifton died Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center in Moultrie. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Dr. Wayne Roe and Dr. W. Ches Smith III will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Jordan Miles, James “Jay” David Miles III, Justin Simpson, Jesse Arreola, Brandon Flanigan and Benjamin Deen will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mrs. Miles was born on September 9, 1923 in Screven County and was the daughter of Robert Cleveland Sowell and Willie Mae Bragg Sowell, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by one son, James David Miles, Jr.; an infant daughter; and one sister, Doralee Bruner. She was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church, where she was employed with the Day-Care Center and volunteered to work in the nursery.

Mrs. Miles is survived by her husband of 69 years, James David Miles, Sr. of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Tom Maze of Tifton; two brothers, Robert Sowell, Jr. of Hot Springs, Arkansas and W. R. Sowell of Sylvania; five sisters, Jewell Dyches Floyd of Statesboro, Brenda Boss of Pekin, Illinois, Geneva Alladio of Arizona, Betty Vaughn of Darien and Dorothy Cowart of Savannah; six grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Lockhart, Mary Simpson, James David Miles III, Brandi Miles, Jordan Miles and Alexandria Miles; and three great-grandchildren, Laeken Simpson, Haley Simpson and Brenya Lockhart.
