Helen O. Byrnes died on March 2, 2004 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. She was 89 years old and is survived by her niece Tina Sloan McPherson. Her late husband was James A. Byrnes. Helen and Jim Byrnes lived in Wellesley Hills for 52 years and Helen as a widow in Wellesley the past ten years. She worked for E.A. Davis for several years. She was an inveterate walker and was recognized on her daily rounds by her fellow Wellesley citizens. She played golf over the years at Brae Burn and at Oyster Harbors on the Cape where she and her husband Jim had a place in Osterville. Until last year she played at the Wellesley College course. Before she went into the hospital ten days ago she was playing duplicate bridge 2-3 times a week. There will be a memorial service at St. Pauls Roman Catholic Church in Wellesley on Tuesday March 9, 2004 at 9 AM. The burial will be private at a later date. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Wellesley Free Library where she spent many happy hours each week. She will be dearly missed.
