WAYLAND: Arthur Edward Mix, 87, died on Saturday evening October 8, 2011 surrounded by his family at the Kindred Hospital at Metrowest Medical Center following a period of declining health.
He was born in Cambridge on April 29, 1924 the son of the late Alfred E. Mix and Lillian F. (Hoeft) Mix.
Arthur was the husband for 60 years of the late Irene “Renee” (Rost) Mix who died on April 28, 2006.
He leaves his children, Jeffrey D. Mix and his wife Beverly of Natick; Kristin L. Mix of Stow and Alan T. Mix of Upton. He was the grandfather of Donnie Rogers and her husband Paul and Christopher, Andrew and Tyler Mix. Great-grandfather of Jarred, Lily and Ethan Rogers. He is also survived by his friend and companion Shirley LeMarbre as well as many nieces and nephews.
Arthur has been a resident of Wayland for over 61 years and previously resided in Wellesley. He served his country proudly during World War II as a Corporal with the United States Army. For over 35 years he was associated with A.M. International of Chestnut Hill as a service technician. He was a 3rd Degree Mason since 1957 with the Dalhousie Lodge in Newton. Arthur loved the outdoors, hunting and spending time with his family at his home in Randolph, New Hampshire. He also enjoyed his vegetable garden at his Wayland residence. He and his wife Renee were part of the original founders of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Wayland which will celebrate their 50 year anniversary later this month. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at 3:00 o’clock at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 169 Rice Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland with the Rector Frederick P. Moser officiating.
Private family burial will be held at a later date.
At the request of his family, there will be no funeral home visiting hours.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests that memorial gifts in his memory be sent to Wayside Hospice, 266 Cochituate Rd, Wayland, MA 01778 and would be appreciated.
