Thomas A. Holyoke Sr. of South China ME and Daytona Beach FL died surrounded by his family on Oct. 13th 2011 at the V.A. Hospital in W. Roxbury MA. He was 60 years old. Mr. Holyoke was born in Brockton MA to Olin D. Holyoke Sr. and his loving mother Dorothy (Dearth) Holyoke. Mr. Holyoke joined the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam era war veteran. He was stationed in Bamburg Germany. He often talked of his time in Germany. He earned the National Defense Service Medal as well as an expert badge for his skills with an M-16 rifle. After his service in the Army Mr. Holyoke returned to Brockton where he worked at South Shore Disposal. He later worked at Director Shipyard in Rhode Island where an industrial accident forced an early retirement. Upon retirement Mr. Holyoke moved to Maine eventually settling in South China. He enjoyed his summers there and his winters in Daytona Beach FL. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, football, Nascar, Foxwoods and Daytona Bike Week.
He is survived by four loving sons. Thomas A. Holyoke Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Vevay ,IN, Scott Thomas Holyoke of South China ME, James A. Holyoke of Brockton, MA, and Jamie Curtis of Miami FL. He was the father of the late Michael J. Curtis who died in 1983 at the tender age of 8. He was a doting grandfather of Chelsy, Hunter and Elizabeth "Betty" Holyoke of Vevay, IN. He is also survived by the mothers of his children Linda (Anderson) (Holyoke) Mc Lean of St. Petersburg, FL, Susan J. Mac Melville of Brockton MA and the late Donna Curtis. He will be sadly missed by his pal Jack Kasevich. He was the brother of Richard of WA, Dorothy "Mother Superior" of VT, George of Brockton, MA, Robert of ME, Carol of NC, Barbara of MD, and the late Olin D.(Junior), Pauline "Cubby" and William. His family would like to thank the staff of the V.A. West Roxbury- MICU for their kindness and compassion.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, MA Sunday 3-7pm. A celebration of his life will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 10am. Burial to follow with military honors at Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
