Obituary

Walter N. Baust, age 88 of South Easton died Tuesday October 11, 2011 at Good Samaritan Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Mildred E. (McGowan) (Cosgrove) Baust and the late Mary A. (Kelly) Baust.
Walter was born and raised in New York City a son of the late Nichols J. and Virginia I. (Merritt) Baust and had lived in Center Moriches Long Island, NY for many years. Most recently Walter had lived in South Easton and previously Hull. Following graduation from Harren High School in NYC he enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre during WW II. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Five Air Medals.
Walter retired as a supervisor for the Department of Sanitation for the City of New York. He was a parishioner of Holy Cross Church in South Easton.

In addition to his wife his is survived by three children Sr. Mary Eileen, LSP (Little Sisters of the Poor) Mary Virginia Lunetti of California and Joseph N. “Nick” Baust of Center Moriches, Long Island, NY, six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, two brothers Harold of NC and Robert of FL. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Arthur Baust, Margaret McLaughlin and Dorothy Myers.

Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, MA Thursday 2-6pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral Home on Friday 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in Holy Cross Church, South Easton at 10am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Donations in Walter’s name may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane, Latham, NY 12119.
