Obituary

Mary Bell Pierce Hardison, age 90, died Monday, October 3, 2011 in Riverside Health & Rehab, Danville.

Born November 15, 1920 in Halifax County, she was the daughter of the late George Arthur Pierce and Veora Hankins Pierce. She worked at HealthTex in the cutting department until her retirement. Mrs. Hardison was a member of the Senior Citizens of Danville, the Retired Seniors of HealthTex, and was of the Baptist faith. Her husband, Durham Lloyd Hardison, Jr., whom she married in December 1939, predeceased her in 1997.

Survivors include two daughters: Jean Karen H. Wheeler of Winston-Salem, NC., Joyce Ann H. Soyars of Eden; three sons: Durham L. Hardison, V, of Ringgold, George Pierce Hardison of Danville, Malcolm Theodore Hardison of Nashville; three sisters: Eunice A. Redd of Farmville, VA, Louise Lloyd of Mechanicsville, VA, and Shirley Wingo of Rehobeth, VA; one brother: Eugene Arthur Pierce of Broadnax, VA; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one sister, two brothers, and one grandchild.

A Memorial Service for Mrs. Hardison will be held Sunday, October 16, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at the Moss Family Cemetery on Vandola Road in Danville. Memorial donations may be made to the Moss Family Cemetery maintenance fund, c/o Margaret Moss, 3767 Vandola Road, Danville, VA 24541.
