Hazel Battey, 83, of Church Street, Greenville, died Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Home and Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence. She was the wife of Raymond “Lance” Battey.
Born in Smithfield, she was a daughter of the late Edgar L. and Elizabeth J. (McGrory) Williams. She was a lifelong resident of Smithfield, the President of the Greenville Manor Tenants Assoc., and a member of the Greenville Grange and the Eastern Star.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her sons: Joseph Williams and his wife, MaryPat of Charleston, IL, John M. Garcia, Sr. of Bar Harbor, ME, James E. Garcia of Johnston, her stepchildren: Karen Lowe of Smithfield, Linda Freitas and David Battey both of Lincoln, her grandchildren: Carrie, John Michael and Lauren Garcia and Logan and Tristan Williams, her stepgrandchildren: Eric and Lisa Freitas, Jessica Pepper and Rachel Battey, two step great grandchildren, her siblings: Elizabeth Ingelsby of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Ralph Williams of North Kingstown. She was the mother of the late William R. Garcia and sister of the late Chester, Edgar, Gertrude, Ruth and Henry Williams and Lucille Farrar.
Her fuuneral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Burial in Highland Memorial Park. Visitation Tuesday 4-7pm.
