Obituary

Alfred M. "Freddie" Couto, 61, of New Bedford died October 5, 2011 at home after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Ludy P. (Prince) Couto.
Born in Acushnet, the son of the late George and Eunice (Couto) Andrews, he was raised in Onset and lived in New Bedford for the last 40 Years.
Mr. Couto served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was the junior vice commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Andrews-Dahill Post 1531.
He was an avid RedSox, Patriots and Celtics fan.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Alfred Couto, Jr. of Virginia; 2 daughters, Kelly Barboza of New Bedford and Summer Makin of Kansas City, KS; 4 sisters, Dolores Neves of Boston, Brenda Lopes of Houston, TX, Anneliese Andrews of New Bedford and Leah "Pebbles" Andrews of Fall River; 8 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Laura Couto and Sandra Baptiste.
Visiting hours Thursday from 3-7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford. His Graveside Service will be held on Friday at 10:45 AM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
