WORCESTER-Ann E. (Gagan) Hemenway, 88 of Notre Dame du Lac, 555 Plantation Street, formerly of 12 Woodbine Street died Wednesday October 17th in Notre Dame Long Term Care Center. She is survived by her husband of 61 years J. Russell Hemenway, 2 sons Stephen I. Hemenway of Holland, MI and John Hemenway of Jefferson; 3 daughters Sister Mary Ann Hemenway, Sisters of St. Joseph of Chicopee, Jane Hall of Osterville and Clare T. Hemenway of Wausau, WI and three grandchildren.
She was born in Worcester the daughter of Bartholomew and Mary Ann (Rourke) Gagan. Mrs. Hemenway was a 1931 graduate of Commerce High School, and a 1935 graduate of Worcester State College and served as class president in her junior and senior years. She was a devoted and active member of St. Peter’s Church Parish for 76 years, and had been a member of its Queen of Peace Woman’s Guild and had served as it’s president for many years. Mrs. Hemenway also was a Friendly Visitor to the Elderly for Catholic Charities. She was known for her creative poetic verses and her love of public speaking.
The funeral will be Saturday October 20th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, with a mass at 11:00 AM in Saint Peter’s Church, 931 Main Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday October 19th from 4:00 until 8:00 PM.
