
Margaret “Peg” (Grinnell) Durfee, 70, of Tiverton died Thursday, October 6, 2011 peacefully at home with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Oliver “Roy” Durfee.
Born in Tiverton, daughter of the late Clinton H. and Georgianna M. (Jean) Grinnell, she was a lifelong resident of Tiverton. A 1975 graduate of SMU, she earned a degree in Psychology. Prior to her retirement in 2011, she was the Executive Director of the Tiverton Housing Authority. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church where she served on the church vestry, superintendant at Sunday School and as a Eucharistic Minister. Mrs. Durfee was also a member of the Little Compton Grange, a past worthy matron of the Order Eastern Star, Portsmouth and was an associate member of the Star Riders, Tiverton. She was active in town politics and raced in the Powder Puff Derby’s at Seekonk Speedway. She loved animals and feeding wild animals and also enjoyed traveling to Cancun, gardening, playing music, baking and cooking.
Survivors include 2 daughters: Jeannie-Mae Durfee and her husband Eduardo Escobar of Tiverton and Whitney J. Durfee of Tiverton; a sister: Jean L. Sisson of Tiverton; 2 grandsons: Timothy Oliver Durfee and Jacob A. Durfee-Escobar; and several nieces and nephews.
She was sister of the late Virginia Skarka.
Memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, October 14, 2011 at Holy Trinity Church, Tiverton at 10:00 A.M.
