Marian W. Green-Lee, 87, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, October 10, 2011, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Mike Ruffin officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Wilcox County. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Lee was born December 27, 1923 in Irwin County to the late George C. and Bernice Brown Walker. She was a 1941 graduate of Fitzgerald High School and a graduate of Birmingham Business School. Mrs. Lee was a former administrative assistant at Ben Hill-Irwin Technical School, office manager for Liberty National Life Insurance Company, and owner of Merle Norman Cosmetics in Tifton and Fitzgerald. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school. She was active in the Right to Life organization and helped to establish a pregnancy hotline. She lobbied against the Georgia Lottery.
She is survived by her son, Richard G. Green of Atlanta; granddaughter, Angie (Glenn) Messner of Atlanta; great-grand daughters, Avery Grace and Savannah Messner of Atlanta; sisters, Dorothy W. English Myers of Tifton and Lois Walker Gainey of Nashville, TN as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands: Gordon H. Green and Melvin W. Lee, four brothers and one sister.
