GULFPORT, FL - Carol A. (Lynch) McCarthy, age 70, a Tewksbury resident for 43 years, died Sunday, October 2 at her Hampton Beach summer home, after a lengthy period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of Gerald L. McCarthy, with whom she had celebrated a 48th wedding anniversary this past September 15th.
She was born in Boston, November 5, 1940, a daughter of the late Leo and Marie (Cary) Lynch, and was raised in Charlestown. She married and moved to Tewksbury to raise her family. Following retirement in 2000, they moved to Gulfport, FL, and have summered at the "McCarthy Compound" on Tilton Street in Hampton Beach, NH.
She worked as a switchboard operator for New England telephone in downtown Boston.
She maintained her ties to Charlestown as a member of the Old School Girls, and in retirement was active in the Red Hat Society in Gulfport, the Gulfport Garden Club, and the St. Pete/Gulfport American Legion, Post 125.
She and her husband enjoyed cruise ships, and have visited numerous ports of call around the globe.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Gerald L. McCarthy and his wife Linda (Tully) and Stephen P. McCarthy all of Tewksbury; three beloved grandchildren, Kayleigh Cabral of Lowell, Nolan McCarthy and Evan McCarthy both of Tewksbury; a sister, Cynthia Lynch-Wolters and her husband Casey of Conroe, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service was held October 7, in the funeral home, followed by burial in Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 will be appreciated.
