Michael D. Gannon, 58

Dateline: Syracuse, New York

Michael D. Gannon, 58, of Syracuse, passed away unexpectedly at home, on Tuesday October 4, 2011.
Born in Amityville, New York on June 6, 1953, he was a loving son of the late John J. and Mary P. (Somers) Gannon.
Michael grew up in Plainview, New York, was educated in Plainview public schools and was a 1971 graduate of Plainview High School. He furthered his studies and was a 1975 summa cum laude graduate of the University of Dubuque in Iowa where he earned his Bachelors of Art Degree in music, and later received his Masters Degree in music from Syracuse University.
A former music teacher, Mr. Gannon had been employed for several years by the Syracuse City School District. He also taught private music and singing lessons and was a professional piano tuner.
Michael was a member of the Syracuse Symphony Choir and was an avid reader. He also enjoyed spending time at the Syracuse Public Library.
A resident of Syracuse for the past 30 years, he had previously made his home in Long Island. Michael will always be remembered for his outgoing personality and for the wonderful sense of humor he possessed.
He was the dear brother of John J. Gannon and his companion Nancy Getz of Brookline, MA and Patricia A. Metrano of Attleboro, MA. He is also survived by his cherished nephews; John S. Gannon and his wife Sarah of West Springfield, MA and Scott J. Gannon of Waltham, MA.
His Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Friday October 14th at 10:00 A.M. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main St., Attleboro, MA. Burial will be private.
