William A. McNamara, Jr. 57, of Franklin, died peacefully, at home Monday October 3, 2011 following an illness.
Born August 22, 1954 in Boston, a son of the late William A. McNamara, Sr. and Theresa V. (Sheil) McNamara, he was a former longtime resident of Dorchester before moving to Franklin last year.
He was raised and educated in Dorchester, and worked as an auto body technician until his illness forced him to retire.
Mr. McNamara served his country proudly, in the United States Navy during the Viet-Nam War and was awarded the National Defense Medal; he was honorably discharged in 1975.
He enjoyed playing pool, drawing, fishing, reading, and watching the Boston Red Sox.
William is survived by 2 brothers; Sean M. McNamara of Weymouth, and Paul D. McNamara of California, 4 sisters; Theresa “Terry” Brawley of Franklin, Carol L. Copsetta of North Carolina, Maureen E. Watson of Vermont and Erin J. McNamara of Winthrop.
Also surviving are 10 nieces and nephews including Kristina T. Brawley with whom he lived, his uncles & aunts; Joseph & Nancy McNamara of Northboro, and Earl & Frances McNamara of Quincy and 8 cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Friday Oct. 7th, at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin, www.oterifuneralhome.com, with a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Sq. at 10AM.
Interment with military honors will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne
