BEVERLY: Robert A. Carroll, 81, died peacefully on Sunday, October 2, 2011 in the Ledgewood Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. He was the husband of the late Marie (Fiore) Carroll.
Born in Salem on February 25, 1930, he was the son of the late Albert H. and Yvonne M. (Simard) Carroll. A graduate of Salem High School, he had resided in Beverly most of his life. He was also a U. S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on September 15, 1951.
Mr. Carroll had owned and operated the former Gulf Station in Beverly and the Community Garage in Hamilton for many years. He had also once worked as a mechanic for the City of Beverly for several years. He was a member of the Italian Community Center in Beverly.
He is survived by two sons, Robert A. Carroll, Jr. of Amesbury and John J. Carroll and his companion, Laurie-Jean Damon of Beverly; three daughters, Patricia and her husband, Patrick Riley of Danvers, Barbara and her husband, Al Levasseur of New Hampshire and Jeanne Upton of Manchester-by-the-Sea; many grandchildren and his best friend, Al and his wife, Marie Nimblett of Peabody.
His funeral service with military honors will be held on Friday in the North Beverly Cemetery, Cabot St., (Rt. 97) Beverly at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923. The family would also like to thank the staff at Ledgewood and the Hospice of the North Shore for the loving care they gave Robert.
