Obituary

Michael E. Costello, Jr. 70, a lifelong Franklin resident, died Friday Sept. 30, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Brighton, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Elaine (Vozzella) Costello.
Born in Franklin, August 19, 1941 a son of the late Michael E. and Mabel (Hodges) Costello, he was raised and educated in Franklin, and was a member of the first little league team in 1953, and was a graduate of Franklin High School class of 1959.
Mr. Costello worked as a purchasing agent for 25 years, and later worked in the maintenance department for the Franklin Housing Authority, retiring in 2002. He also served in the United States Navy, he attained the rank of SN (E-3), and served aboard the USS Cascade (AD-16), he was honorably discharged in December of 1961.
Mike was an avid Boston sports fan, who enjoyed his grandchildren, crossword puzzles, movies, family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 46 years are 2 sons; Michael G. Costello and his wife Maribeth of Medway, Matthew J. Costello and his wife Shannon of Bellingham, a daughter Dina M. Merolla and her husband Jeff of Franklin, a brother Richard Costello and his wife Eileen of Attleboro, 2 sisters Patricia Ober of Upton and Judy Costello of Franklin.
He was also the proud “Nonno” to his nine grandchildren; Dylan, Casey, Stephen, Ian, Rachel, Jacob, and McKenna Costello, Nicholas and Carlie Merolla.
Mr. Costello was also the brother of the late Jane Menard and the brother in law of the late Donald Ober. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Wednesday Oct. 5th, at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. FRANKLIN, www.oterifuneralhome.com, with a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Sq. at 10AM. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
