Mrs. Maria Guerra, age 89 of Medford died Friday, September 30 surrounded by her loving family in the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading. She is the wife of the late Domenic Guerra. Mrs. Guerra was born in Italy, the daughter of the late Salvatore and Concetta (Bellissimo) Intagliata. She was educated there and came to the United States in 1947. A former resident of Boston’s West End, she remained there until 1960, then moving to Medford. For many years, she worked as a seamstress producing fine garments. In later years she continued her craft making garments from scratch. She traveled back to Italy and her former homestead often. Known as a fine cook, she found most enjoyment in family gatherings. She was most at home when surrounded by her family, grandchildren and her great grandson. She is survived by a daughter: Josephine Pierce and her husband James of Medford, a son Domenic Guerra of Medford, 3 grandchildren, Christine, Michael and Matthew Pierce and his wife Jennifer, and a great grandson Ryan Pierce all of Medford. Sister of Elena Romeo of Swampscott. She also leaves 3 nephews and a niece.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street Medford on Tuesday at 9:00am. A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford, at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 4-8pm. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
