Arthur B. Blood, 89, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family Saturday, October 1, 2011. His wife of 61 years, Shirley C. (Carter) Blood, died in 2004. He leaves his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Richard S. Booth of NY; three grandchildren, Sean V. Blood and his wife Angela of Worcester, Benjamin Booth of Ithaca, NY, and Sarah Booth-Neades and her husband Michael of MD, 2 great-grandchildren, Michael and Zachary, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Bruce Carter Blood; two sisters, Arline and Bernice; and three brothers, David, Robert, and Ralph.
Arthur was born March 26, 1922, in Worcester, son of Helen (Thompson) and Ralph Berton Blood. He was a graduate of Worcester Boy's Trade School and was an Eagle Scout. He was an Army veteran of WWII and served in the India-Burma Theatre along the Burma Road. He worked at Morgan Construction Co. for 37 years and was a member of Greendale People's Church and the Greendale Retired Men's Club. Arthur was also a member of Order of DeMolay, Isaiah Thomas Lodge, and Morning Star Lodge A.F. & A.M. He was a Master lily judge and member of the New England Lily Society and North American Lily Society. He attributed his long life to being an active member of the Greendale YMCA.
All are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Greendale People's Church, 25 Francis Street, Worcester on Saturday, October 8, at 11:00 a.m. Funeral services for family and close friends will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Friday, October 7, at 12 Noon. Burial with military honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Tower Hill Botanical Gardens, Alzheimer's Assn., or a charity of the donor's choice.
