Obituary

Roland H. Crossley 82 of 7 Westland Dr., died Wednesday, Sept. 28 at The Meadows of Leicester.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Barbara A. (Slocum) Crossley, his daughter Patricia A. Lupien of Spencer, his grandson Todd M. Standring of Charlton, several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Kenneth Paul Crossley in 1971.

Roland served his country with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, spending 20 years in the service. He was discharged as a Chief Petty Officer. He served many years on the USS Essex stationed in Quonset Point, RI. He later worked for 25 years with the Federal Aviation Administration head quartered in Washington, DC. His last employment was at Stratford Airport in Bridgeport, Ct. as an air traffic controller before retiring in 1992.

He was a member of Mary,Queen of the Rosary Parish and sang in the church choir. He was a member of the American Legion Post 462/Boston. He enjoyed playing golf and attending reunions with his shipmates from the USS Essex.

Born in Helena, Montana he was the son of Gradon and Lydia (Sampson) Crossley.

The funeral will be held on Monday, Oct. 3 from the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St., Spencer. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St., Joseph’s Cemetery, Leicester. A calling hour will be held on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral Mass.
