Obituary

FRAMINGHAM: Johnson H. Leard, 93, died peacefully with the care and comfort of his family on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland following a period of declining health.
He was born in Bedeque, PEI, Canada on September 11, 1918 the son of the late Earl Inman Leard and Mildred Irene (McCallum) Leard.
Johnson was the husband for 60 years of the late Mary Ann “Anna” (Frew) Leard who died in October of 2007.
He immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of five and was raised in West Roxbury and Jamaica Plain before moving to Framingham in 1959. He has resided in Framingham for many years and also at his summer cottage in Eastham. He was a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School and served his country during World War II as a Sergeant with the United States Army. He had a long and distinguished career as a foreman with General Radio which became GenRad at the locations in Concord, Bolton and Cambridge. He retired in September of 1981. Upon his retirement he was associated for several years with the John C. Bryant Funeral Home of Cochituate. Johnson enjoyed spending summers with his family and friends at his cottage in Eastham. He thoroughly enjoyed maintaining his Framingham home and took great pride in its appearance. In his later years, Johnson enjoyed walking at the Natick mall and sharing coffee and stories with many friends.
He is survived by his children, Douglas J. Leard and his wife Cynthia F. Bryant of Cochituate Village, Wayland and Cheryl Ann (Leard) Brown and her husband Edward K. Brown of Franklin. Also survived by 5 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was the brother of the late Jack E. Leard and Gladys Dornlas.
Visitations will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 10:00 am at the funeral home with the Reverend Norman J. Townsend officiating.
Burial will follow in the Leard family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Cochituate Village, Wayland.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests that memorial gifts in Johnson’s memory be sent to Wayside Hospice, 266 Cochituate Road, Wayland, MA 01778 for the wonderful care and compassion given to him and his family in his final days.
