Obituary

Edward Leroy “Roy” Barton, age 85, died Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, after an extended illness. He was born October 5, 1925 in Yalobusha County to the late Edward L. and Abbie McGaee Barton.

Visitation will be Friday, September 30, 2011, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM in the the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Bro. E. J. Bratcher officiating. Burial will be in the Ford’s Well Cemetery, Oakland, MS with Charles Barton, Harold Barton, Larry Barton, Jack Biggers, Eddie Wiggs, Ron Russell, Billy Sassor and Ricky Hudson serving as pallbearers. David Langston, Taylor Williamson, Bill Williamson, Mitchel Crocker, Luke Purdy, Marty Langston, Bobby Gilley and Zane Surrette will serve as honorary pallbearers. Brandon and Preston Chism will serve as ushers.

Roy was a member of the Ford’s Well Church of Christ in Oakland, MS. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a friend to many.

He was a World War II veteran, having served in Germany. He was a heavy equipment operator in the Memphis area for forty years. The last eighteen years, he worked for the City of Memphis. He retired in 1987 to his home place in Oakland, MS. He was an active member of the Ford’s Well Church of Christ and other community services.

Roy is survived by his wife of almost forty eight years, Virdean (Deana) Barton of Oakland, MS; three sons, Lloyd Chism of Southaven, MS, Ben Barton of Collierville, TN and Eddie Barton (Pam) of Jackson, MO. He is also survived by five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
