TEWKSBURY - Mitchell Ginsburg, 91, the patriarch of a well known area family, died peacefully Monday afternoon, September 26, at his home while surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Mary R. (Sciarappa) Ginsburg, with whom he had celebrated a 67th wedding anniversary on September 17th.
He was born in Revere, August 10, 1920, one of three children of the late Harry and Fannie (Falk) Ginsburg. He was raised in Revere, and lived in Malden before moving to Tewksbury in 1989. In retirement, he and his wife wintered in Florida from 1975 until 1995.
During WW II, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy, Pacific War Theater, as a crew member of L.S.T. 247.
Upon honorable discharge, he worked for the New England Telephone Company, where he retired as an instructor. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. In his retirement, he became an avid golfer, and lived his dream helping build and then work at the Tewksbury Country Club. Throughout his life he took great pleasure in taking family photos and assembling numerous albums. His recent wedding anniversary also coincided with the publishing of an article recalling the events around the heroism shown by Mitch as he saved the life of a gravely injured 16 year old boy while he was celebrating his 27th year of marriage to Mary.
He was active in civic and fraternal affairs as a member and Past Grand Knight of the Revere Knights of Columbus, Council 179, a life member of the Tewksbury Veteran's of Foreign Wars, the Revere American Legion, and was an active parishioner of St. Dorothy's Church in Wilmington.
Besides his beloved wife, he is survived by seven children; Richard T. Ginsburg and his wife Kathy MacInnis of Tewksbury, Richard's twin brother, Robert E. Ginsburg and his wife Susan Conley of Revere, Ellen Salipante and her husband Anthony of Tewksbury, Michael F. Ginsburg and his wife Karen (Kline) of Norwell, Amy Scarpa and her husband Pastor Nick Scarpa of Tewksbury, Maribeth Crupi and her husband Carl of Wilmington, Maribeth's twin brother, Marc P. Ginsburg and his wife Leisa (Burnett) of Tewksbury; seventeen beloved grandchildren; ten adoring great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Caroline (Gilbert) Taylor of Tewksbury, Nancy Sciarappa of Wilmington; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also brother of the late Anna Wigderson and Murray Ginsburg.
His life was celebrated with a Funeral Mass on Thursday, September 29, in St. Dorothy's Church, Wilmington. Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery, North Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers and memorial contributions, Mr. Ginsburg’s memory would best be served by your celebrating a special meal with your family as throughout his life Mitch’s mantra was “Family First.”
