ESSEX: Rosalie L. “Sally” (Danjou) Dort, 64, of Grove Street, died early Friday morning, September 23, 2011 in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, with her children by her side. She was the wife of the late Richard H. Dort, who died in October of 2003.
Born in Ipswich on November 19, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Adelard E. and Barbara A. (D’Etramont) Danjou. Raised in Essex, she attended the Rufus Choate School, but had to leave school to help raise her brothers and sisters.
She was employed as a waitress for thirty-two years; first at the Dort family establishment, Archie’s Restaurant, and later at Skipper’s Galley.
Sally was a great cook and loved to bake. Her greatest joy in life was her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter and favorite son-in-law, Darlene and Keven Harding; son and daughter-in-law, Richard H., Jr. and Danielle (Morrow) Dort; five grandchildren, Kristen, Keven, Jr. and Kaitlen Harding, Jasmine and Ashley Dort; two sisters, Alice Pratt and Barbara Ehler; two brothers, Clifton Danjou and Adelard “Bozo” Danjou; and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother, Gordon Danjou.
Sally’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to her extended family, the staff of the Bayside Unit at Seacoast, for their care and support.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday morning in the St. John the Baptist Church, Essex at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923. Interment will be held in the Spring Street Cemetery, Essex.
