Aaron V. Bass, 85, of Tifton died Saturday, September 24, 2011, at his son’s residence in Lenox. Graveside funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2011, in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Rev. Stephan Massey will officiate with burial to follow. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 29, 2011, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Bass was born on January 22, 1926 in Grady County and was the son of Lonnie David Bass and Irene Fulford Bass, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by two brothers; three sisters; and two grandchildren, Timothy Aaron Bass and Julia Nicole Cooper. He was a former police officer and retired from the City of Tifton. He was a veteran of the United States Army and Air Force and received the National Defense Service Medal; the Good Conduct Medal the Army Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Bass was well-known for having an incredible voice, which he used all of his life to entertain many over the years and was an entertainer for the troops during World War II. He was also a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Grady County.
Mr. Bass is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie David II and Kaye Brock Bass of Lenox; one daughter, Lori Nell Sapp of Bloomingdale, Illinois; one step-daughter, Janice Lynn Kimbro and husband Alan of Sylvester; two step-sons, John Greene Farrar and wife Elda of Lincoln City, Oregon and Allen Lee Farrar and wife Lori of Lillian, Alabama; two brothers, P. L. Bass and Othell Bass, both of Pelham; one sister, Helen Wills of Thomasville; two grandchildren, Richard Andrew Sapp and David Garron Bass; three step-grandchildren, James Lynn Kimbro, Alan Wright Kimbro and Cindy Farrar Spannake; and his former wife, Wynelle Greene Bass of Tifton.
