Obituary


Wendell Ray Shipp, 74, passed away September 24, 2011.

Ray taught music for 11 years at the old Music Center. In 1964 the Hikes Point School of Music was opened and a few years later he opened East End Music. For 21 years he was the owner of the Music Warehouse, Inc. after 38 years in the music business.

He was also a member of the American Guild of Music and a board member of the National Association of Musical Merchants.
Ray also had a dance band called “The Tradewinds”. He was the vice-president of the Louisville Dulcimer Society. He was well liked by many and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Shipp and mother, Lizzie Shipp and great-grandchild, Kaiden Thomason.

He was married 54 years to his wife Ann Marie Justice Shipp. Also, survived by his daughters, Vicky Lynn Thomason and Valerie Ann Smith (Steve), sister, Carolyn Shilling (Jerry), brothers, Jesse Shipp and James Madden (Louise), grandchildren, Matthew and Michelle Thomason, and Bradley and Ashley Smith.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday at Owen Funeral Home – Jeffersontown, 9318 Taylorsville Rd. Visitation Monday 2:00 – 9:00 pm and Tuesday after 10:00 am. Followed by burial at Cave Hill Cemetery.
