Rufus Edward “Ed” Hersey, age 65, Douglas, GA passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Tift Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Hersey was born on July 14, 1946 in Douglas, GA. He was a pipe fitter for B. E. & K Construction. Mr. Hersey was the founder of Faith Holiness Church. He was preceded in death by his father: Edd Rufus Hersey. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2011 in the Faith Holiness Church at 2:00 p.m. with burial following in the Chatterton Church Cemetery. Survivors include: wife: Joyce Austin Hersey, Douglas, GA; son: Dwayne Hersey, Douglas, GA; daughter: LaRhonda Hersey, Alma, GA; brothers: Alfred Hersey, Douglas, GA and Wayne Hersey, Jacksonville, FL; sisters: Judy Peoples, Douglas, GA and Margie Myers, Las Vegas, NV; mother: Ruby L. Hersey, Douglas, GA; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Sims Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m. Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
